Achondroplasia
Achondroplasia is a genetic disorder that effects a persons stature. Those with this inherited genetic disorder usually have a short stature. Males usually grow to be only 4'4'' and females won't get any taller than 4'1''. Their limbs are also known to be abnormally short. Diagnosing achondroplasia can be done through visual aspects of the person. It can also be determined by x-rays or Ultrasound. Ultrasound has been able to diagnose the disorder before birth. Those with achondroplasia may need to have their foramen magnum enlarged by surgery to keep it from compressing the spinal cord. People with the genetic disorder can live normal lives as long as they receive regular care from a physician.
